Shifting Sands began more than 25 years ago with a simple idea: follow the swell and build a life around the ocean.
Paul first came to Hossegor on a surf trip and, like so many before him, was immediately hooked. After years of chasing summers around the world, he returned to the French Atlantic coast and eventually settled just south of Hossegor, where the beaches are quieter and the rhythm of life is slower.
Here, surrounded by the Landaise pine forests and just minutes from the ocean, Shifting Sands grew into a relaxed surf house built by surfers, for surfers.
Today, a new chapter is beginning. Paul is now joined by his daughter, bringing fresh energy and new ideas while keeping the spirit of the place exactly as it has always been – simple, welcoming, and centred around the sea.

Mornings begin with the first check of the swell. Days are spent chasing waves along the shifting sandbanks of the Landes coast, exploring the forest trails, or simply slowing down and enjoying the beach.
With decades of local knowledge, we know this coastline well. The sandbanks change constantly, and the best waves move with them. Our goal is simple: help you find great surf, often away from the crowds, and share the lifestyle that keeps us here year after year.
