Shifting Sands began more than 25 years ago with a simple idea: follow the swell and build a life around the ocean.

Paul first came to Hossegor on a surf trip and, like so many before him, was immediately hooked. After years of chasing summers around the world, he returned to the French Atlantic coast and eventually settled just south of Hossegor, where the beaches are quieter and the rhythm of life is slower.

Here, surrounded by the Landaise pine forests and just minutes from the ocean, Shifting Sands grew into a relaxed surf house built by surfers, for surfers.

Today, a new chapter is beginning. Paul is now joined by his daughter, bringing fresh energy and new ideas while keeping the spirit of the place exactly as it has always been – simple, welcoming, and centred around the sea.

We track tides and swell daily to find the best uncrowded waves for every level. With local guidance, flexible days, and premium gear taken care of, you simply turn up and surf. From first paddles to advanced swells, we create effortless, sociable surf experiences on the South West coast of France.

At Shifting Sands, life flows between surf, skate, and slow living. From the garden skate bowl and outdoor yoga space to a relaxed social lounge, it’s built for connection and balance. Beyond the waves, explore lakes, forests, and local culture, with everything set up for easy, laid-back adventure.

Life at Shifting Sands is as much about the people as the waves. Days naturally bring everyone together, sharing surf sessions, meals, and slow evenings that turn strangers into lasting friendships. You leave feeling lighter, healthier, and quietly glowing, with a sense of connection and energy that stays long after you’ve gone.

Mornings begin with the first check of the swell. Days are spent chasing waves along the shifting sandbanks of the Landes coast, exploring the forest trails, or simply slowing down and enjoying the beach.

With decades of local knowledge, we know this coastline well. The sandbanks change constantly, and the best waves move with them. Our goal is simple: help you find great surf, often away from the crowds, and share the lifestyle that keeps us here year after year.

Evenings are relaxed, good food, good company and stories from the water.
There are no rigid schedules here. Just a surf house by the sea where you can settle into the rhythm of the coast and make the most of every swell.

Tout a commencé ici, en 2001 🌊

J’ai grandi à Shifting Sands, entourée de passionnés de surf venus du monde entier, avant de partir explorer le globe à mon tour.

Mais la vie ramène toujours à l’essentiel. Alors je suis revenue, pour redonner vie à ce lieu si précieux, aux côtés de mon père.

Aujourd’hui, on réunit nos expériences pour créer bien plus qu’une surf house : un refuge, un lieu de partage, un sentiment de chez soi.

Shifting Sands renaît… et ce n’est que le début.

Bienvenue dans notre aventure père-fille !
